As a young child, enjoying Andrew's friendship at Clare House, I was always impressed by how young Julia was (compared to my Mum who seemed so much older--and indeed was by 15 years or so!). So I felt quite envious of Andrew. For it was always such fun to go round to his house; yet I also sensed, even at that age, how much Julia respected and loved my Mum too.
So, many, many years later, it was so lovely to see the way they cherished each other's company , often popping in on each other or meeting at Park Langley for a coffee. My abiding memory of Julia, therefore, will be perhaps the last time I saw her, when one New Year's Day I had brought Sylvia round to Kemerton Road at short notice for a coffee. The next 45 minutes ended up being one continually bout of raucous laughter, often occasioned by the fact that no one seemed to be able accurately to hear what the other was saying! (We pointed out together, that of the 6 ears present, only one was in perfect working order; and that 5 of the ears should have been employing hearing aids, but only one was being used!!). How we laughed and laughed! Suhc precious memories
